A Pause on Crowdfunding

Greetings team AVALANCHE! It's been an exciting week in the world of film production. When we started this project, we knew that if our fan film campaign gained enough momentum, we might hear from the big dogs at SQUARE ENIX. And we all agreed that if that day came, that's pretty exciting for everyone!
Well, that day arrived! We received an informal Cease & Desist letter from the General Manager of Square Enix, demanding we stop all crowdfunding and production work until a resolution has been agreed upon. This is a HUGE win for the campaign to know that our fan film got enough attention to be considered a threat to the intellectual property owners. And what an honor to be talking with the general manager of a game that made such an impact on the lives of so many people!
Next steps - we've sent a formal response, along with the film's pitch deck and teaser, and we've asked Square Enix to formally authorize our project. Discussions and negotiations will probably go for several weeks at least, and in the meantime all production will be on hold. It's a long shot, but I'm so thrilled for an opportunity to make this fan film an official production. Should they choose to not authorize, there's still also an opportunity to continue making the film unofficially! And if Square Enix ultimately chooses to pursue legal action to shut our film down, then our campaign will officially end and donations will be returned.
